The Best Video beginner equipment
Sometimes it is not really easy to start if you do not know what is important. Therefore, I wrote this guide on Video beginner equipment, to help you to start your first video recording. In this guide you will find my equipment tips for video beginners.
For your start on Videos (e.g. YouTube) you are looking for the right beginner equipment, but are you undecided which products to choose? I have selected the most popular Video beginner’s equipment for you and made it available on this page. Get an overview and maybe your first video will be online tomorrow!
Cameras
The right camera is essential for your video equipment. After all, you can’t make a video without a camera. Since the market feels there are endless cameras, it is difficult to choose the right model. But in Video-Making circles, you will always come across the same models that have been successful due to their different features. Especially as a beginner, you might not have the financial means to buy a professional camera, such as a Sony Alpha, for thousands of Euros. That’s why there are also favorites among the beginner models. I have listed the most popular video cameras for beginners below.
Also make sure to check out my camera buying guide. You will find a lot more information and tips on how to choose the perfect camera.

Microphones
Almost more important than the image in your video is the sound. Nobody wants to listen to a video with bad sound quality. For this reason you should use a microphone. You have a huge choice here too. It depends a little on what you want to film. There are many types of microphones that specialize in different types of recordings. If you are interested in the topic microphone selection, you should definitely have a look at my guide on the best recording microphones.
For your successful start in video shooting, I would recommend a universal video-micro, which is not too expensive. With this you can capture most recordings with good sound and it is easy to handle.
Lighting
In your videos, you should pay attention to the correct illumination, because the eye eats, as is well known. Even if the saying does not quite fit in this case, but also applies to videos, the more appealing you or a product appears in your videos, the more interesting the video is for the viewer. Nobody likes to watch a muddy and dark or even the opposite, an overexposed video. Even for small money, you can get softboxes that illuminate your surroundings optimally. When you sit in front of the camera, you should ideally be illuminated from three sides: left, right and above. This type of lighting is called 3‑point lighting and is used by most video-makers.
- Get a quiet cheap kit of 3 beginner Softboxes incl. bag
- Get 2 high professional Softboxes
- Get 3 softboxes and backgrouds (black, white, green) as a full set
Memory card
You should make sure that your camera has enough memory to store your videos in full length. It is often worth having more than one memory card. You can easily find memory cards on Amazon. I have several 64GB memory cards that I can take with me everywhere and that fit into all my cameras.
Programs
Once you have recorded your first video, it is theoretically ready to be uploaded on whatever platform (e.g. YouTube). However, there are many reasons to edit your video. Maybe you didn’t record the video in one piece but different places. Or maybe you want to add music or text to the video. Then you need to edit your video. There is professional software that is incredibly expensive and difficult to use for beginners, and there is inexpensive software that you can work with professionally even if you are a beginner. If in doubt, you don’t even have to spend money, but simply fall back on a free alternative that meets your needs.
Here are my recommendations for a beginners cutting software:
- Adobe Premiere Elements
- MAGIX Video delux
- iMovie (you can download it for free)
Decide on the right Video beginner’s equipment
You should now have an overview of the necessary video equipment for your start. The video beginner’s equipment should help you get started on videos and beyond and help you produce professional videos. It is not always necessary to buy the most expensive camera or the most expensive and ultimate light. With cheap equipment, you can produce just as good videos as with expensive professional equipment. And it is well known that e.g. on YouTube not only the quality is important! Much more than the beginner equipment, you as a person influence the quality and range of your videos!
